In order to evaluate the biochemical properties of dragon’s head (Lallemantia iberica L.) ecotypes’ using some anti-perspirants in rainfed conditions in the crop year 2018, an experiment has been conducted in Karaj and Khorramabad regions. The experiment is based on a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with a factorial arrangement, consisted of three replications. The first factor involves four different ecotypes of dragon’s head (Kurdistan, Takab, Nazarkahrizi, and Kalibar) and the second factor includes three anti-transpirant compounds (kaolin with a concentration of 5%, chitosan with a concentration of 1%, and Ista with a concentration of 2%) as well as no anti-transpirant (control). The results show that using anti-transpirants has increased the amount of the activity of catalase and peroxidase enzymes. Ista anti-transpirant has had a greater effect on enzyme activity than kaolin and chitosan. The highest amount of peroxidase and catalase (0.51-0.39 unit mg/protein) are obtained from the ecotypes of Kurdistan treated with Ista and Karaj cultivation, respectively. In addition, the highest grain yield and biomass yield are obtained from treatment with chitosan, which has increased by 4% to 20%, compared to the control, respectively. Based on the results, using anti-transpirants in dryland cultivation conditions improves most of the studied yield traits and biochemical traits compared to the control.

This study was carried out to assess yield, yield components and quality traits of dragon’s head (Lallemantia iberica L.) ecotypes’ seeds grown using some anti-transpirant agents in rainfed system in two regions of Iran including Karaj & Khorramabad in 2018. The experiment was performed based on a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with a 4×3 factorial arrangement consisting of three replications. The first factor consists of four different ecotypes of dragon’s head (Kurdistan, Takab, Nazarkahrizi and Kalibar) and the second factor including three anti-transpirant compounds (kaolin with a concentration of 5 Percent, chitosan with a concentration of 1 Percent and Ista with a concentration of 2 Percent) and no anti-transpirant (control). The results indicated that the triple interaction of ecotypes, anti-transpirant and location on most of the studied traits was significant. Among anti-transpirant, chitosan had the greatest effect on cultivated ecotype & increased grain, biomass, oil and mucilage yields by 20, 4, 11, and 18 Percent, respectively. Also, Nazarkahrizi, Kalibar, Kurdistan and Takab ecotypes cultivated in Karaj had the highest values in the studied traits under foliar application with anti-transpirant, respectively. According to the studies conducted in this study, the selection of a suitable ecotypes with the region and the use of antiperspirants improve the yield & yield components, quality traits of dragon’s head in rainfed cultivation conditions.

In order to evaluate the increment possibility of bean seed yield by the application of brassinosteroid, a split factorial experiment was conducted based on randomized complete block design with three replications at the research farm of Agriculture Faculty, the University of Zanjan during the 2016-2017 cropping season. In this experiment, irrigation levels included optimal irrigation and drought stress were applied to main plots and bean cultivars including Kusha cultivar and COS16 genotype, and four levels of brassinosteroid including of no-application (control), two, four and six μM were allocated to subplots as factorial. Drought stress was applied at the flowering stage, and bean plants were sprayed with brassinosteroid (epibrassinolide) simultaneously with drought stress. The results showed that drought stress decreased leaf area index, yield components, seed yield, biological yield and harvest index and the application of epibrassinolide minimized the negative effects of drought stress and increased in the above traits. The highest seed yield was obtained by application of two μM of epibrassinolide with an average of 2068.2 kg.ha-1. Also, among the studied cultivars, the Kusha cultivar under optimal irrigation with an average of 3025.45 kg.ha-1 showed a higher seed yield compared to COS16 genotype. Therefore, the use of epibrassinolide can be suggested as a solution to increase drought stress resistance and enhance seed yield of bean under optimal irrigation and drought stress conditions.

This experiment was carried out at the Research Farm of Faculty of Agriculture, University of Zanjan in Spring of 2012 to introduce an integrated weed management method in fennel. Treatments were type of herbicide (trifluralin and pendimethalin), application dose (recommend dose in other crop (R), 75 percent R, 50 percent R, and 0 percent R) and supplemental control (none, one hand-weeding at 50 day after planting (DAP) and, wheat straw mulch 2 kg m-2). A plot with whole season hand weeding was also included as check. The results showed that weed biomass loss, fennel yield and yield components significantly affected by weed control treatments. Pendimethalin provided better weeds control than trifluralin. Experimental results also showed that the use of herbicides resulted in reduced weed biomass but did not provide season long weed control without an additional supplemental control. Overall, the recommended dose of pendimethalin (1320 g ai ha-1) followed by one hand-weeding at 50 DAP produced consistently high yield (3561 kg ha-1) and weed biomass loss (92 percent).

In order to study of use advantage in the intercropping system fennel (Foeniculum vulgare Mill) and fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum L) in different ratios of intercropping and sole cropping, an experiment with use replacement and additive intercropping based on randomized complete block design with three replications was conducted at the Research Station of Faculty of Agriculture, University of Zanjan, Iran, during growing season 2012. Treatments included additive intercropping in three levels (100 percent fennel + 33, 66 and 100 percent fenugreek), replacement intercropping in six levels (1:1, 1:2, 2:1, 2:2, 1:3, 3:1), Sole fennel and Sole fenugreek. Results showed that the highest grain yield of Fenugreek was obtained in pure stand of Fenugreek and the lowest of mentioned trait was obtained in the 75 percent fennel + 25 percent fenugreek (3:1) replacement series. Also the highest and the lowest fennel grain yield were obtained in 100 percent fennel + 33 percent fenugreek additive series and 25 percent fennel + 75 percent fenugreek (1:3) replacement series respectively. yield of essential oil at 100 percent fennel + 33 percent fenugreek additive series were higher compared with sole cropping. The highest Land Equivalent and Relative Value Total obtained from 100 percent fennel + 33 percent fenugreek additive series. The highest Actual Yield Loos or gain (AYL) and intercropping advantage (IA) obtained from 25 percent fennel + 75 percent fenugreek (1:3) replacement series. Aggressively index revealed that in most sowing ratios fennel was dominant and fenugreek was defeated.

Photosynthesis, stomatal conductance and leaf water potential characteristics were examined in two plantago species (Plantago ovata Forssk and P. psyllium L.), with gradually improving water stress for several days and permitting to recover by re-watering (withholding for 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 days) in Melbourne University in 2006. Factorial experiments based on completely randomized design with four replications were used. The photosynthetic rate and stomatal conductance decreased rapidly by withholding water. After re-watering the recovery rate of photosynthesis and stomatal conductance decreased gradually, as the days became longer. The different rates of recovery of photosynthesis and stomatal conductance followed by drought stress. However, the potentional of photosynthesis recovery was more than stomatal conductance. It is also concluded that French psyllium had higher mesophyl and stomatal conductance recovery when compared to Isabgul, although recovery of photosynthesis in Isabgul was higher than French psyllium. The results showed a clear and close correlation between leaf water potential and recovery level of photosynthesis rate and stomatal conductance. A close correlation was also observed between photosynthesis and leaf water potential, stomatal conductance and relative water content.
