Objective: Available water for irrigation of canola decreases towards the end of the season, due to reduced rainfall and the simultaneous late-season irrigation for other spring crops. Therefore, the possibility of the plant facing drought stress in the final stages of growth is very likely. So, it is very important to select drought-tolerant genotypes in arid and semi-arid regions.
Methods: Therefore, to investigate oilseed rape cultivars under Late-season drought stress, a split-plot experiment was conducted in a complete randomized blocks design with four replications for two cultivation years (2017–2019) in Karaj agricultural research station. Treatments included three drought stress (full irrigation, withholding irrigation from the pod formation stage, and flowering stage) as main plots and five oilseed rape cultivars (Sarigol, RGS003, Hayola 401, Zafar, and Dalgan) as sub-plots.
Results: The results revealed that drought stress, especially from withholding irrigation from the flowering stage led to a significant decrease in 1000-seed weight, number of silique per plant, number of seeds per silique, seed yield, oil percentage, oil yield, length of the growing duration, water use efficiency. Under full irrigation, Delgan and Zafar cultivars, and under drought stress, RGS 003 and Delgan cultivars had the highest seed yield.
Conclusion: RGS 003 and Delgan cultivars can be recommended as suitable cultivars in late season drought stress conditions in Karaj.

In order to study the effects of late-season drought stress and foliar application of zinc sulfate (ZnSO4) and manganese sulfate (MnSO4) on physiological characteristics and yield of rapeseed cultivars, a factorial split-plot test has been conducted in a randomized complete blocks design for two cultivation years (2017-2019) in Karaj, Iran. The experimental treatments include two levels of irrigation (full irrigation (control) and withholding irrigation from flowering stage) and four levels of foliar application (control, ZnSO4, and MnSO4, separately, as well as their combined application) as factorial in the main plots, with rapeseed genotypes (Nima, Niloofar, and KS7) considered as subplots. Combined foliar application of zinc and manganese sulfate under full irrigation conditions increase the content of seed oil and soluble carbohydrates by 3% and 11%, respectively, compared to the control. On the other hand, withholding irrigation from flowering stage increases the percentage of seed oil and leaf proline content, compared to the control by 9% and 5.2%, respectively. Niloofar genotype has had the highest seed yield (5261 kg/ha) under full irrigation conditions, i.e. 9% and 11.8% higher than KS7 and Nima genotypes, respectively. Nima genotype with 3371 kg/ha has had the highest yield in the conditions of withholding irrigation. In general, in both irrigation treatments, simultaneous foliar application of zinc sulfate and manganese has had the greatest impact on the physiological traits of the studied genotypes, thus Niloofar genotype is recommended for full irrigation and Nima genotype for interrupted irrigation.

In order to study the effects of late-season drought stress and foliar application of potassium silicate on yield and yield components of spring genotypes of canola, a factorial split-plot experiment is conducted in Karaj, Iran in a randomized complete block configuration with three replications for two years of cultivation (2016-2018). The irrigation is performed at two levels in this study, including routine irrigation (control) and interruption of irrigation from the pod formation stage. Potassium silicate foliar application at two levels is comprised of 0 and 4 g liter-1 in factorial status in main plots and five Brassica napus L. genotypes including OG×AL, RGS×SLM, DALGAN, RGS003 and RGS×Okapi in subplots. The results show that the measured properties are affected by the applied treatments. Full irrigation with foliar application in OG×AL genotype results in highest seed yield (5620 Kg/ha) and total chlorophyll content (1.71 mg/g.FW) increase stomatal resistance, leaf proline, leaf soluble and carbohydrates, decreasing total chlorophyll content and relative leaf water content. Under drought stress conditions, DALGAN and RGS× SLM genotypes have higher yield, which indicates its better performance under stress conditions. Finally, our research demonstrates Potassium Silicate's beneficial effects in improving the drought tolerance of canola plants, particularly at the end of the season. Our study will act as a foundation for any attempt in new approaches to mitigate drought damage, establishing a functional connection between the position of potassium silicate, physiological response, and drought stress tolerance in canola plants.

In order to investigate the interaction between sodium nitroprusside and drought stress on photosynthetic pigments and their relationship with yield and yield components of rapeseed, an experiment was conducted during two cropping years (2015-16 and 2016-17) at Hamedan Agricultural and Natural Resources Research Center. The experiment was carried out as a factorial in randomized complete block design with three replications. Experimental factors were irrigation levels including full irrigation (control), irrigation termination from beginning silique stage and irrigation termination from grain filling stage, and four treatments of foliar application of sodium nitroprusside with concentrations of 0, 100, 200 and 300 μM. The results showed that irrigation termination significantly reduced the amounts of studied traits. Sodium nitroprusside foliar application increased the amounts of photosynthetic pigments, yield and grain yield components under drought stress and non-stress conditions. The highest and the lowest grain yield were obtained in the combination treatments of plant foliar application with 300 mM sodium nitroprusside and full irrigation (5129 kg/ha) and non-foliar application and irrigation interruption at the beginning silique stage (3396 kg/ha), respectively. The experiment indicated that sodium nitroprusside application can have positive effects on photosynthetic pigments, yield components and grain yield of rapeseed under drought stress and non-stress conditions, and therefore its application can greatly mitigate the adverse effects of drought stress in water deficit conditions.

In order to study the effect of terminal drought stress on agronomic and qualitative traits of canola genotypes in the application of ammonium sulfate condition, an experiment was performed during two years of 2015-2016 and 2016-2017. This study was conducted as a factorial split-plot design based on completely randomized block design with three replicates at the research farm of the Seed and Plant Improvement Institute (SPII). At the pod formation stage, irrigation factors were included two levels, normal and restricted, and at the elongation stage, ammonium sulfate was included two levels of 0 and 150 kg per hectare, as factorial was set in the main plots and cultivars including BAL111, BAL119, BAL121, BAL128, and Nima were set in subplots. The results showed that among the genotypes examined, line BAL128 had the highest grain yield (3904 kg/ha), which increased 28% compared with the control treatment. The highest amount of grain oil (45.53 percent) was obtained in the second year of experiment and under normal irrigation conditions. By application of ammonium sulfate, the amount of oil increased by 2.5 percent in comparison with normal condition. The BAL128 line had the highest percentage of grain oil (44.29%). in normal irrigation condition, the use of ammonium sulfate resulted in decreasing the amount of glucosinolate to 22.88%. However, in restricted irrigation condition, the amount of glucosinolate decreased to 17.25 percent. In the irrigation and fertilizer treatments of this experiment, among the lines studied, The BAL128 line is recommended for similar experimental conditions.

In order to study of root system relationship with water relations in Rapeseed under drought stress conditions, a pot experiment was carried out in greenhouse at Agricultural Biotechnology Research Institute of Iran (Karaj) in 2012. Five winter Rapeseed genotypes were evaluated under four irrigation treatments, using a factorial experiment based on randomized complete block design. The results indicated that response of genotypes to irrigation treatments was different for stomata conductivity, SPAD value, root length and diameter, morphologic characteristics, yield and yield components. In control, Cooper produced the highest grain yield that due to higher silique number per plant, whereas, ‘Opera’ had the maximum grain yield under drought stress treatments. This subject was due to higher root depth and diameter in ‘Opera’ and on the basis of these characters, the high leaf area duration, stomata conductivity, silique number and grain number was observed in ‘Opera’. In conclusion, these results showed that role of root morphologic characteristics in Rapeseed adaptation to drought tolerance is powerful and an effective root system with last stomata conductivity, more leaf area duration and high silique number were more important for yield maintenance of Rapeseed under drought stress conditions.

In order to evaluate the effect of zeolite application and selenium spraying on some physiological traits and grain yield in medicinal pumpkin (Cucurbita pepo L.) under different moisture regimes, a study was conducted in a factorial experiment based on randomized complete block design with three replications during 2010 in Takestan at Gazvin province, Iran. The three levels of irrigation factors including normal irrigation based on 60mm evaporation from class A pan (control), withhold irrigation at the flowering and fruit formation stages, zeolite factors including two levels of non-application and use of 10 tons per hectare and selenium was sprayed at two concentration in zero and 30 grams per liter per hectare. The results showed that water deficit stress decreased stomatal conductivity, carotenoid content, chlorophyll a, total chlorophyll, grain yield and increased proline concentration and chlorophyll b content. Zeolite application of 10 tons per hectare under water deficit stress conditions had desirable effect on chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b content and grain yield, also improved traits as stomatal conductivity and reduced proline concentration. The highest grain yield (1329 kg.ha-1) was obtained with zeolite and selenium application together at normal irrigation conditions. According to the results, it seems that application of zeoilite and selenium in areas that are subjected to water deficit stress can be useful in improving plant growth and production.

This study was conducted to analyze the effect of zeolite application on yield and yield components of rapeseed under drought conditions as a factorial-split on the based of randomized complete block design with four replications in 2011-12 in the research field of Seed and Plant Improvement Institute, Karaj. The effects of zeolite levels Z0 (0) and Z10 (10 t/ha) under three drought stress levels, control (irrigation after 40%), moderate stress (irrigation after 60%) and severe stress (irrigation after 80% soil water depletion) were in main plots and four genotypes of Brassica napus (‘KR4’, ‘Eldo’ lines and ‘GKH305’, ‘Anatol’ cultivars) were in subplots. Based on the results, negative impact of drought on yield components led to a significant fall in grain and oil yield. The most negative impact of drought stress was seen in the grain number per silique. Between genotypes, ‘GKH305’ in none stress condition and ‘Anatol’ in both mild and severe stress conditions had the highest yield. According to the results, zeolite can be used in growth period or part time of drought stress.

To evaluate the drought stress effect at terminal growth stage on yield of 12 rapeseed cultivars, an experiment was conducted with split-plot arrangement based on randomized complete block design with four replications at experimental field of Seed and Plant Improvement Institute, Karaj-Iran during 2005-06. Irrigation at two levels (irrigation after 80 mm evaporation from class A pan, as control and withholding irrigation from silique formation until crop maturing time, as stress conditins allowcated to main plots and twelve rapeseed cultivars were used in sub plots. The number of silique in main stem, number of silique in lateral branches, silique fertility ratio and grain yield were low in drought stress conditions (p< 0.05). There were significant variations in all studied traits between evaluated cultivars. Grain yield in drought stress treatment was decreased (30%), when silique abortion was occurred due to water stress. In full irrigation treatment (control), the grain yield of Orient cultivar (2817 kg.ha-1) and at drought conditions, the grain yield of Opera cultivar (2058 kg.ha-1) were the highest amounts. The lowest oil percentage (39.8) and the highest protein percentage (23.3) were for Talaye cultivar, while the highest oil percentage (42.6) was for Option500 cultivar.

In order to study the effect of drought stress in terminal growth period on agronomical and physiological characteristics of canola (Brassica napus L.) cultivars, a field experiment was conducted using split-plot layout based on randomized complete blocks design with four replications at experimental field of Seed and Plant Improvement Institute, Karaj in 2006. There were two factors, including irrigation at two levels (irrigation after 80 mm evaporation from class “A” pan as control and drought stress from flowering stage until physiological maturity) as main plots. In addition, twelve spring cultivars: (RGS003, Sarigol, Hyola401, Hyola 60, Hyola 330, Kimberly, 19-H, PR-401/16, PP-308/8, ORS 3150-3006, RG 4403, and RGAS 0324) were applied in sub plots. Results showed that RG 4403 had maximum grain yield (3228 Kg/ha) and harvest index (29.9%). In drought stress conditions, best cultivar in grain yield, 1000-seeds weight and oil yield was 19-H and with comparison of stress tolerance indices had better compatibility to water stress. Sarigol and Hyola330 had the lowest yield and yield components and ORS3150-3006 was the most sensitive to water stress.
