In this study, the effect of drought and different concentrations of silicon was examined on seed yield, essential oil percentage and physio-chemicals properties in fennel plant. The experimental design was a split plot with three irrigation regimes: irrigation at 100, 70 and 40 percent of FC comprising the main treatments, and five levels of silicon foliar sprays (0, 2.5, 5, 7.5 and 10 mM) as sub-treatments that were applied with three replications. The experiment was conducted in 2014 at the Zabol University research farm in Zabol, south Iran. Limited irrigation significantly decreased chlorophyll, carotenoids, leaf relative water content, while electrolyte leakage showed a 2 -fold increase over the control. In limited irrigation conditions 7.5 mM silicon increased relative water content, chlorophyll, antocianine, proline and soluble sugare by 38, 30, 38, 12 and 22 percent, respectively, while decreased electrolyte leakage by 28 perent over the control. These results suggested that silicon spraying by photosynthetic pigments and soluble osmolytes increasing could increase the ability of plants to drought stress, and in this way increased seed yield by 61 percent under severe stress conditions.

To investigate the effects of deficit irrigation and different levels of nitrogen fertilizer on somequantitative and qualitative properties of Melissa, a pot experiment was conducted for one year (2011) inMazandaran province. Experiment was carried out as a factorial based on randomized complete blockdesign with three replications. Irrigation treatments (25, 52 and 75 percent field capacity, FC) andnitrogen fertilizer (0 and 2.5 percent ammonium nitrate) were allocated to main and sub-plots,respectively. The results showed that the effect of different levels of deficit irrigation were significant onquantitative and qualitative properties of Melissa. Fertilizer treatments were significant on dry weight,leaf area, shoot number and fresh weight, percent citronellal, caryophyllene oxide percent, geranial andneral percent. Interaction of treatments was significant only on leaf number, dry weight of shoot, freshweight of plant and geranial percent. Results showed that maximum plant height, leaf area, number ofstems, number of leaves and dry and fresh weight was obtained in 75 percent FC treatment. Percent ofcitronellal, caryophyllene oxide, geranial and neral with 6.14 percent, 11.61 percent, 20.09 percent and17.38 percent, respectively, had a maximum amounts in 75 percent FC treatment. Also, application ofnitrogen fertilizer caused 5.33 and 9.15 percent reduction of citronellal and caryophyllene oxiderespectively and increased geranial and neral percent by 17.64 and 15.56, respectively.

In this research the effects of mycorrhizal symbiosis and irrigation intervals on growth indices and grain yield of two sorghum cultivars was studied. Field experiment was laid out as a split plot factorial based on randomized complete block design with three replications. Irrigation intervals as main factor in three levels (7, 14 and 21days) and factorial combination of two sorghum cultivars (Kimia and Sepideh) with three levels of seed inoculation (non inoculation, inoculation with Glomus intraradices and inoculation with Glomus mossea) were considered as sub-plots. Results showed that maximum values of leaf area index (4.21), crop growth rate (50.8 g m-2 day-1) and total dry matter (1852.5 g m-2) without significance difference with 14 days irrigation interval, were achievedat 7 days irrigation interval. In comparison with non inoculation treatment, Glomus mossea increased leaf area index, crop growth rate and total dry matter up to 17.4, 11 and 8.6 percent, respectively. Also, growth indices of Kimia cultivar were superior to Sepideh cultivar. Without significant difference with plants inoculated with Glomus mossea and 14 days irrigation interval, maximum grain yield was achieved at plants inoculated with Glomus mossea and 7 days irrigation interval which in comparison with treatment of non-inoculation and 21days irrigation interval, increased grain yield of sorghum by 56.47 percent. In general, results indicated that mycorrhizal fungi especially Glomus mossea improved plant growth indices and yield of sorghum under deficit irrigation (14 days irrigation interval).
