Numerous studies have been performed on the effect of rootstock and cultivar on physicochemical traits of apple fruit with their results showing different effects of these two factors. In order to study three vegetative rootstocks on some quantitative and qualitative characteristics of apple cultivars "Golden Delicious" and "Red Delicious", an experiment was carried out in factorial design based on randomized complete blocks with four replications in orchard of Mashhad Agricultural Research Center in 2021. Fruit quantitative and qualitative characteristics, including weight, volume, density, length, diameter, firmness, pH, total soluble solids, phenol content, antioxidant properties and anthocyanin have been measured. The highest amount of total phenol (652.9 μg.g-1FW) and anthocyanin (35.9 mg.g-1FW) has been measured in "Red delicious" on M9 rootstock. The results of this study show that "Red delicious" has had the highest amount of diameter (78/64 mm) and weight (166/9 g). The highest amount of fruit firmness has been observed in M9 rootstock (5/64 kgcm-3). In general, the results of this study indicate a different effect of rootstock and cultivar interaction on the studied characteristics. Depending on the purpose of gardener, different grafting compounds can be recommended "Red delicious" on M9 and MM106 rootstock with highest amount of total phenol and anthocyanin is suggested as a valuable grafting compounds in terms of health benefits under Mashhad Climatic Conditions.

The effects of hexanal and Pelargonium. essential oil (PEO)-Cucurbita pepo oil (CPO) on the quality and storability of grape cv. Bidaneh Sefid during cold storage was investigated. The treatments included 1) controls as untreated fruuits, 2) Wet controls (treated fruits with solvent (0.02% 0f Ethanol) that was used in preparation of treatments), 3) hexanal, 4) EFF and 5) combination of PEO and CPO. After treatments, the fruits were stored at 0 ± 1° C and 65-60% RH. At the beginning of the storage, and every 15 days, some parameters were evaluated. The results showed that none of treatments had not significant effect on titratable acidity, pH, total phenol content and fruit quality. The lowest increase in soluble solids (35.59 %) was observed in EFF treatment, which had a significant difference with control untreated fruits. Control fruits with the highest rate of rot (3.5 score) and weight loss (9.3 %) and the lowest firmness (201.3 N mm-2) had less quality than other treated fruits. Hexanal treatment was more successful in maintaining color indices a* and L* in comparison with other treatments. In general, the most effective treatment in preservation postharvest attributes of grape was EFF treatment with significant effects in reducing weight loss, activity of the polyphenol oxidase enzyme, fruits rot and color change of rakis, which seems that good synergistic effects of hexanal treatment, PEO and CPO has maintained quality of grapevine fruits cv. Bidaneh Sefid during 2 months of storage.

Purple conefloweras top-selling medicinal plant is widely used in Europe and North America for the treatment of common cold. This experiment was conducted as a randomized complete block design in split plot arrangement with three replications in Research Farm of Genetics and Agricultural Biotechnology Institute of Tabarestan in 2012-13. Experimental treatments included three transplanting dates (April 9, May 9 and June 8, 2013), and three plant population densities (7, 10 and 16 plant/m2) which considered as main and subplots, respectively. Results showed a relative compensatory effect of higher population density until 10 plants/m2, however, delayed planting resulted to decrease in total shoot, leaf (L) and stem (S) dry weights. It represents that the highest flower (F) dry weight (27.1 g/plant) was related to planting on May 9 with 10 plant/m2 density. Ratio of L/shoot was greater than S/Shoot than F/shoot dry weight. The highest (L+F)/Shoot ratio was related to the April and May planting dates while the highest S/Shoot ratio was related June’s planting date. Maximum total phenol content of leaves (51.1 mg of GAE/ g dry matter) and stems (35.9 mg of GAE/ g dry matter) were measured in plants cultivated on April 9 with a density of 10 plant/m2. The highest total phenolic content of flowers (56.5 mg of GAE/ g dry matter) was determined in plants cultivated on May 9 with a density of 10 plant/m2. Total phenol of flowers was greater in leaves than stems. Overall, it could be concluded that early planting of purple coneflower on April 9 with 10 plant/m2 density was suitable for leaf and stem dry weight and total phenol production, while the delayed planting until May 9 with a population density of 10 plant/m2 was favorite for flower as production of dry weight and total phenol, according to the experiment conditions
