This study aims at investigating morphological and physiological characteristics as well as water use efficiency of the stock plant in various low irrigation treatments and culture media. For so doing, a research has been conducted in the form of split plots with a completely randomized block design with three replications in the crop year 2018-2019 in the research greenhouse of the College of Abouraihan, University of Tehran. The treatments include four culture media (perlite, perlite + enriched manure, perlite + zeolite, and perlite + vermicompost) and three low irrigation levels (100% (control), 75%, and 50% of water needs). Results indicate the significant effects (P < 0.01) of culture medium on plant height, stem diameter, leaf area, root fresh and dry weight, plant fresh and dry weight, as well as water use efficiency, and the perlite + vermicompost media improves all these traits. Moreover, severe irrigation treatment (50%) has had negative effects on plant growth parameters, i.e., root fresh weight and diameter, while irrigation at 75% of water needs does not have any undesirable effect on plants, significantly increasing water use efficiency (P < 0.01). The perlite + vermicompost with 75% low irrigation treatment increases the water use efficiency by about 1.8 times, compared to the control in the perlite culture media. Due to the decrease in the quality of growth characteristics in severe low irrigation treatments (50%), this plant’s production is recommended in irrigation at 75% of the water needs.

AbstractThis study aims at investigating the morpho-physiological responses of potato superelite mini-tubers to different coating treatments factorial experiment, based on randomized complete block design with three replications in Research Farm of Mohaghegh Ardabili University between 2018 and 2019. Experimental factors at four levels include mini-tubers filler (zeolite and cocopeat), superphosphate (soil and pellet application), chitosan, and superabsorbent with control treatment (without pelleting). Application of cocopeat with superphosphate leads to the highest average number of tubers per plant (8.36), fresh and dry tuber yield (18.23 and 3.88 tons per hectare), and biological yield (21.69 tons per hectare). The use of chitosan in mini-tuber pelleting decrease the activity of catalase and peroxidase enzymes (19.67% and 16.37%, respectively), increasing the activity of polyphenol oxidase (37.80%). Zeolite increase and cocopeat decrease the tuber protein percentage, compared to the control. This increase in protein percentage with increasing tuber yield leads to a 32.23% increase in tuber protein yield in zeolite application, compared to control treatment. The use of superphosphate in mini-tuber pelleting also increase the protein percentage, thus leading to a 30.30% increase in protein yield, compared to control mini-tuber. In principal component analysis (PCA), the first component, with which 35% of the changes could be explained, include the yield of protein, lysine, and methionine, and the second component, with which 25% of the changes could be explained, include the protein, methionine, lysine, and total nitrogen. Finally, the results show that the mini-tuber pelleting by superphosphate, zeolite, and superabsorbent have had significant additive effects on yield and quality traits.

In order to evaluation the effect of zeolite application and selenium spraying on water relations traits and antioxidant enzymes in medicinal pumpkin (Cucurbita pepo L.) at water deficit stress conditions, an experiment was conducted in factorial based on randomized complete block design with three replications during 2010 in Takestan, Iran. The three levels of irrigation factor include normal irrigation (control), withhold irrigation at the flowering and fruit formation stages, zeolite factors include two levels of non application and use of 10 tons per hectare and selenium was sprayed at two concentration in zero and 30 grams per liter per hectare. Water deficit increased antioxidant enzymes activity, so that the increase in stressed plants at flowering stage was among the most prominent. Selenium spraying increased the anti-oxidative activity. Zeolite application of 10 tons per hectare, reduced stress effects and improved traits as RWC, WSD, soluble protein content, number of seeds, 100 seed weight and oil yield. According to the results, application of zeoilite under drought stress condition retain the moisture during stress and can be useful in improving plant growth and production.
